Clarence Hines is a trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator whose work moves naturally between the stage, the writing desk, and the classroom.
Trombonist, composer, and arranger Clarence Hines has built a career as both a performer and a writer for the modern jazz orchestra and beyond, appearing with artists including John Pizzarelli, Diane Schuur, David Sanborn, and Maceo Parker, as well as the Jacksonville Symphony, the Jacksonville Jazz Collective, and the Grammy Award-winning 8-Bit Big Band.
His compositions and arrangements are performed by professional and collegiate ensembles across the country. His work has been presented at Tanglewood, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Spain, and the Strings Music Festival in Colorado.
Hines serves as Director of the School of Music and Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of North Florida, where he continues to mentor the next generation of jazz musicians. He is a Conn-Selmer Artist for C.G. Conn trombones.
Along the Way is Hines’ forthcoming debut recording on Origin Records as a leader of his own jazz orchestra, anchored by trumpeter Bijon Watson and drummer Jared Schonig, featuring original compositions and arrangements that reflect his musical and personal journey. The album features soloists Clay Jenkins, Todd DelGiudice, Doug Stone, Josh Bowlus, and Lenard Simpson.
