Here is another chance to hear Boston Sympony Orchestra musicians perform my arrangement of Duke Ellington’s sacred hymn Come Sunday.
The Boston Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present Encore BSO Recitals, a colorful and eclectic online concert series spotlighting 50 musicians of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in small ensembles and giving viewers a rare opportunity to experience the individual artistry of many of the musicians who make up the world-renowned ensemble. The Encore BSO Recitals series reprises programming initially recorded and streamed this past summer for the Tanglewood 2020 Online Festival.
I’m looking forward to rehearsing and performing with the UNF Wind Symphony at the World Association of Symphonic Bands & Ensembles (WASBE) Conference in Buñol (Valencia), Spain. Peña Amaya, my original composition for wind ensemble, comes full circle after having originated here in Spain a few years ago and now it will be performed (premiered internationally) at the WASBE Conference tomorrow. The Strings Music Festival Brass & Percussion Ensemble will premiere an arrangement of African-American spirituals written to feature James Jenkins, principal tubist with the Jacksonville Symphony. I wrote a somewhat different arrangement of the same songs, “Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child” and “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho,” a couple of years ago for James’ Germany tour with the Ukrainian Chamber Orchestra.
