CLARENCE
HINES
Conn-Selmer Artist
About
An Artist
of Many Voices
Clarence Hines is a jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator whose work spans the full arc of the jazz tradition — from the intimate textures of small ensemble writing to the sweeping scope of large orchestra. A Conn-Selmer Artist, his playing is as fluent in the concert hall as it is on the bandstand.
As Director of the School of Music and Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of North Florida, Hines leads one of the Southeast's most vibrant academic music programs — 60 faculty, 250 students, and over 100 public performances each academic year. He brings the same rigor and passion to mentorship that he brings to performance.
His compositions have been performed at Lincoln Center and the Tanglewood Music Center, broadcast internationally, and published through UNC Jazz Press and eJazzLines. He leads the Clarence Hines Jazz Orchestra, which has appeared at the JEN Conference in New Orleans and major venues across the country.
